Admissions
The SLCD provides educational and therapeutic programming
for preschool,
elementary, middle and high school students. Students are considered for
admission through any one of these programs by means of a submitted
application.
The application process consists of:
• a school tour
• a family interview
• a comprehensive review of student records
• an educational day with prospective student and family
• an admissions committee determination for placement
• acceptance is pending agreement with all SLCD policies and procedures. Child cannot start until all forms are completed and submitted to SLCD.
SLCD receives many applications from parents who are interested in our
programs. SLCD only has limited openings on an annual basis and students
must be selected based on existing classroom profiles. We must make sure
of
an appropriate match between a child entering SLCD and his learning peers.
It
is also important to understand that students enter and leave SLCD every
year.
As students grow their needs change; every year students are referred
back to
their school districts and placed in other programs. The admissions process
is
time-consuming and requires multiple professionals who provide their
recommendations about placement.
Please note that SLCD operates a 12 month educational program. Parents who send their children to SLCD agree that their children's needs are so intense that 12-month programming is required. Parents also need to be aware that students at SLCD are required to wear uniforms. Since we have such high expectations for our students, parents are also required to sign a parent contract. In the Middle-High school program, students are required to sign a contract as well.
