Day Habilitation-PWW / Site Based

Tiegerman Community Services, Inc. (TCS) offers adults with developmental disabilities a supportive and nurturing environment that promotes a lifetime of personal growth, learning and self-esteem. The program is designed to assist individuals with acquiring, retaining and improving their communication, socialization and the ability to interact with others in the community. Each individual has a Habilitation Plan that details desired person-centered outcomes. While attending program, the individuals discover areas of interest and develop skills that may lead to a vocational path. In Day Habilitation, the individuals follow a structured schedule that include in-house meaningful activities and volunteer or recreational opportunities in the community.

Our Long Island Day Habilitation is based in Westbury. The program has four classrooms and a sensory room. The individuals enjoy a wide range of services including academics, community inclusion, music therapy, computer and daily living skills.

Our Queens Day Habilitation and Program Without Walls (PWW) is based in Richmond Hill. The program spends a portion of the day working on technology, math, current events, theater arts and science. The program participants also utilize the community for volunteering and recreational opportunities. Our volunteer sites provide our individuals the opportunity to integrate into the community while also enhancing vocational skills.

We also have a Program Without Walls based out of Bethpage that covers Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The individuals are in the community the entire day at various volunteer sites, social clubs or recreational opportunities. The activities and environments are designed to foster the development of skills and strive towards greater independence.

Individual choice is encouraged during all aspects of program activity selection. The daily activities in each program are a reflection of the many skills and interests of our individuals. We also provide door to door transportation for all of our day services programs.

In order to qualify for Day Habilitation services you must:

Be at least 18 yrs. old

Transitioned from a school program

Have OPWDD approval
