If you walk into the School for Language
and Communication Development (SLCD) children’s dining hall during
lunchtime it would not appear any different than a typical school cafeteria.
The children do not have obvious disabilities; they are not in wheelchairs
and they look healthy. What SLCD’s children share is a “silent
disability,” having all been diagnosed with language and autism
spectrum disorders. They struggle to communicate their thoughts and feelings
to family and friends, and need special services to help them speak, read,
and write. These skills are necessary for social, emotional, and academic
success.
Here are some of the success stories:

Michael Comuniello

Nicole Draghi
Matthew Duffy
Camille Farnan
Steven Gromling
Brian McGee
Kevin O'Sullivan
