Therapeutic Learning Center

"How would you feel if you could not talk?"

At SLCD, we believe that children with disabilities must be identified as early as possible in order to address learning problems before they become instructional deficits.  Early identification and treatment can make a significant difference in the lives of children with special needs.

"The earlier a problem is identified... the better the child's prognosis."

In partnership with parents and local school districts, our therapeutic specialists foster an environment in which a child can reveal his or her strengths, needs, and unique learning style.  SLCD's Therapeutic Learning Center provides a comprehensive range of educational and clinical services for infants, toddlers, and school-age children.

SLCD is an approved provider for infants/toddlers (birth - 3 years) through the Department of Health's Early Intervention (EI) Program and preschool children (2 1/2 - 5 years) through the Department of Mental Health's Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). Approved services through EI or the CPSE are provided at no cost to families. At the request of school districts, related services for school age students are also provided at no cost to families through the Committee on Special Education (CSE).

Our licensed and certified therapists are available to provide after-school therapy at SLCD or in a home/community-based setting by means of a special itinerant teacher (SEIT). Private therapeutic services are also available.

"Language allows a child to talk about himself and know who he is."
