The School for Language and Communication Development (SLCD), a non-profit organization, is proud to be celebrating 30 years of Giving Our Children a Voice. SLCD’s mission is to identify children with language and autism spectrum disorders as early as possible, teach them to communicate, and help them lead an independent life. We believe that language is the foundation for all educational learning and academic success. Over the past 30 years, SLCD has grown from serving 96 pre-school students at a school in New Hyde Park to serving over 500 individuals throughout Long Island and the five boroughs of New York City. Today we offer a preschool, an elementary school, a middle school, a high school, adult programs and services, and an adult residence. We now have the ability to meet the needs of our students from pre-school through adulthood. SLCD was one of the first programs of its kind in New York State and remains one of the few specialized schools in the nation continuing to develop innovative programs for students with language and autism spectrum disorders.

Six of our students from Elementary, Middle and High School Programs have written a letter with the theme "What SLCD Means to Me," you can read them here.
